I've recently gotten interested in Formula One racing. I've always enjoyed watching Nascar, but an online, European friend of mine convinced me to watch a Formula One race earlier in the season.

It would appear that I am now hooked.

There are several problems if one wants to watch F1 racing in the states, however.
  1. Not all races are run in real time. Some races this season were broadcast by Fox and run starting at noon even though the actual race would have begun around 8 AM my time. I detest finding out race results before I've had the opportunity to watch a race so this causes me to have to ignore the internet until after the race which severely cramps my style.
  2. Most races are run on the Speed channel with a few broadcast on Fox. For the 3rd most popular sport in the world, you'd think a major network would have snagged the broadcasting rights and be able to show them on a major channel.
  3. I'm not convinced that the commentators always know more than I do about the sport which is pretty bad as I've just begun watching it this year.
Things are looking up, however! It appears that a F1 race will be run in the US next year which can only mean that more people in the states will take an interest in the sport. I cannot imagine that this will be a bad thing.

I never did get to the housework yesterday (other than doing a couple loads of laundry) so today is the day to do this.

Now all I need is motivation.

It always struck me as odd that my mother enjoys doing housework. She truly does. Now, I enjoy having a clean house. I can say that. I don't think that I could ever say that I enjoy doing the work, however.

Perhaps I'm just lazy.

Well, truth be told, I am lazy, but... not too lazy to get the work done when it needs to be done. So! Off I go to do housework and I'll reward myself with playing on the computer after it is all done!

Saturday Six - July 30, 2011

1. What color hair did you have at birth? What little hair I had was brown. I was pretty much a bald baby with a smattering of hair.

2. What color is your hair now on its own? My hair is brown with gray highlights. :D

3. Have you ever, or would you ever, color your hair? I have colored my hair in the past. I went red and reddish-brown several times in my twenties. I won't dye my hair now, though. I've decided that there is no reason for me not to look my age (46) and I'm not going to try to look younger by dying my hair. There is nothing wrong with getting older - despite what Hollywood would like us to believe!

According to the quiz, my soul has violet eyes. It says:
You understand people well and are a natural born therapist. You are a gentle listener and the ideal confidant.
You believe that this world truly lacks understanding. You try to exercise compassion as often as you can.
You are a compassionate and forgiving person. You are willing to overlook most mistakes.
Affection is like air for you - you need to give and receive it to survive. You need love in your life.

5. What color are your eyes naturally? My eyes are gray.

6. If you could change the color of your eyes, would you, and if so, to which color? I always wanted green eyes! I even bought green contacts once.

These questions come from Patrick's Place Saturday Six! Thanks, Patrick! These were fun!

We left the house at 10:00 this morning and finally just got home. We were shopping.

Grocery shopping took me to 3 different stores - and I still need to hit up another one for meat. (I'm picky and cheap so I don't buy everything at one store)

We stopped at the pet store to get Brooke another ball to play with in the yard. I spotted some socks with pit bulls on them so I had to buy them! You've no idea how unusual it is to find items with pit bulls on them! They have so many things - calendars, key rings, mousepads, mugs, etc with different breeds of dogs on them but hardly ever pit bulls! So! I'm the proud owner of a pair of $8 pit bull socks. So much for claiming to be cheap, huh?

Oh, well. If I didn't save so much at other places I shop, I wouldn't have been able to buy them, right? That's what I'll tell myself.

So... I have a day off work today.

I've spent much of my day catching up with and getting in touch with some online friends I've lost touch with.

I'm glad to see one of them is now following my blog here. (Thank you)

I had no plans today - no projects or massive organizational tasks. This is truly a day to take it easy. Too bad the weather doesn't seem like it will be cooperating with me.

Right now the computer room is comfortable with the fan running but it is heating up outside. Online weather tells me it is 85 degrees out with a high of 96 expected. It does not mention the humidity but that is the factor I am most concerned about. If it gets too much more sticky, I'll have to relocate to the living room and go off line. Let's hope this doesn't happen anytime soon. *crosses her fingers*

I recently lost a dear friend when he took his own life almost 3 weeks ago. Though I never did meet him in person, we were close online friends for about 8 years.
I requested his parent's address from a mutual friend as I wanted to send my condolences. This friend lived near him and had met him in person. She gave me his mother's address and mentioned that his mother wanted to hear from his friends. I don't believe that she and her son had been as close as they might have been and perhaps she'll find some comfort in learning about what other people thought of him.
I fully intend to write to her but... I'm having a difficult time with it all. I've finally gotten past the stage that the mere thought of him makes me cry (well, not every time I think of him) but when I try to describe just how much his friendship meant to me, I falter.
I don't know where to begin. When I do start writing I ramble and babble and I realize that I'm not sure what to share with her at all!
Maybe I'm just not prepared to think too much yet but I really don't want to wait too long to contact her. I have made a resolution to finish this letter this weekend. Perhaps all I need is a deadline to get me going on it.

I work with a woman who sometimes talks to another co-worker about short-paying an invoice. Unfortunately, her pronunciation isn't clear. It sounds like she is saying shar pei. So, yeah. All I can think about is those dogs when she's talking about applying payments to accounts.
